Tax Analysts Experts Available to Comment on OECD Recommendations to Prevent Tax Avoidance

FALLS CHURCH, Va. – Tax Analysts, the nonprofit, independent provider of tax news and analyses, has experts available to speak about the OECD’s first set of newly released recommendations under its base erosion and profit-shifting (BEPS) project to prevent tax avoidance.

The recommendations cover seven key elements of the OECD’s BEPS action plan: the digital economy, hybrid arrangements, harmful tax practices, treaty abuse, transfer pricing of intangibles, country-by-country reporting, and transfer pricing documentation. Experts available for comment include:

    • Mindy Herzfeld: Herzfeld writes on international tax policy and cross-border transactions. She has a background in international mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, spinoffs and inversions, intellectual property restructurings, venture capital investing, and private equity structures. She holds a JD from Yale Law School, an LLM from Georgetown University Law Center, and a BA magna cum laude from Barnard College.
    • Lee Sheppard: Sheppard is one of the nation's most widely read and respected tax commentators. Named one of the Global Tax 50 most influential players in international taxation in 2012 by International Tax Review, Sheppard specializes in financial issues and the taxation of multinational corporations. Her articles have included commentary on treaty issues, transfer pricing, European tax developments, and cutting-edge financial issues such as derivatives, hybrid securities, and hedge funds. Sheppard holds a law degree from the Northwestern University School of Law.

As part of its public education mission, Tax Analysts seeks transparency in tax laws and more dialogue between tax authorities and taxpayers. Through these and other efforts, Tax Analysts seeks to ensure that tax laws are applied fairly and equally to taxpayers across the country.
